Meet Our Friends of Honor!

Jake Moon

Jake Moon photo.jpg

Officiant

Danielle and Jake met her first year of college in marching band (he played the trumpet, she the saxophone). Although he is 4 years older than her, he still invited her, and the other bridesmen (Tim, Nick, and Preston) to game nights. After both Jake and Danielle graduated from Southern Methodist University, Nick and Danielle went to visit Jake in New York City twice to see and stay with him. Danielle and Nick differ on their favorite memory with Jake. Danielle’s favorite memory with Jake is going to a Tiki bar with the 3 of them and catching up while Jake impressed the two of them by knowing all the US presidents in order. Nick's favorite memory, on the other hand, is watching Formula 1 with Jake in his apartment and debriefing after (this happened during both trips to visit Jake - you always have to schedule room to watch Formula 1)!

Madalyn Ekstrom

Matron of Honor & Danielle's 1st Cousin

Danielle and Maddie are first cousins, but growing up only 5 minutes apart from each other, they felt more like sisters. Danielle was also the Maid of Honor in Maddie's (and Teo’s) wedding in July of 2021. Danielle’s favorite memory with Maddie was planning and celebrating both her virtual and in person bachelorette where Danielle planned a plethora of surprises that kept Maddie on her toes and constantly smiling! Maddie is one of the best planners Danielle has ever known (she kind of does it for a living), so Danielle knows she is in great hands with her Matron of Honor! Danielle and Nick recently visited both Maddie and her husband Teo in early May 2022 while they were living in Sweden for a year and made even more memories for a lifetime! Fun Fact: Maddie is the only one on Danielle’s side who Danielle didn’t meet through band! (Although Maddie did have her fair share of instruments such as guitar and harp).

Peter Flanders

Peter photo.jpg

Best Man & Nick's Brother

Peter and Nick are like brothers, because they are brothers. They have known each other for Peter’s whole life. From celebrating magical family Christmas mornings together to games in the backseat of road trips to beautiful national parks, they enjoyed a full childhood of shared memories. Nick has always been so proud of how successful Peter has been throughout his life, with school and now work - but especially with work life balance and always being involved in so many extra curricular activities and with his friends. It is usually supposed to be the little brother looking up to the big brother, but sometimes it definitely feels like the other way around for Nick, which is why they have such a great brotherly connection. Nick’s favorite memory was celebrating Fourth of July 2021 with Danielle, Peter, and Jessie, where they played board games (Ticket to Ride) and shared their alcoholic drinks together.

Nick's Groomsman - but Danielle's Brother

When asked whose side Jake wanted to be on, Jake replied, “obviously Nick’s since I like him better” (even though he is Danielle’s brother by blood). Jake, Danielle's brother, was just 9 years old when Nick and Danielle started dating. There were only a couple years where Nick got to cherish being taller than Jake. Although Nick is sad that Jake has long since passed him up in height, Nick has enjoyed the chance to see Jake grow up into the man he is today. More recently, since Nick moved back to California from St. Louis and Dallas, Jake has been patiently coaching Nick in Disc Golf, a sport that Jake has been playing for over 10 years. Nick’s favorite memory of their friendship is from Danielle and Jake’s cousin Maddie’s wedding weekend, where Nick and Jake enjoyed going to a Mariners baseball game, playing disc golf, apprehensive socializing at the wedding reception, and even dancing.

Danielle's Bridesmaid & Nick's Groomswoman

Danielle and Nick have known Jessie since she started dating Nick's brother, Peter, more than 5 years ago. Similar to how Nick and Danielle met in marching band, Jessie and Peter followed a similar love story since they both placed (a version) of saxophone, and both were in the Glendora Pipe Band. Danielle and Nick have enjoyed multiple family vacations with Jessie (and the rest of the Flanders family)! Danielle's favorite memory with Jessie was jumping off a cliff in Maui together when no one else would! Nick's favorite memory with Jessie was learning and playing the Harry Potter board game together.

Dylan Werth

Danielle's Bridesman

Danielle has known Dylan since the first year of band camp in college where he was also in the saxophone section. Danielle enjoyed all of the memories of band trips with Dylan as they travelled around the US to places such as New Orleans, Connecticut, New York, and Houston. Even after college and through the pandemic they continued to play online board games. Danielle loves that Dylan is always up for board games, whether in person or online.

Ellys Rodgers

Danielle's Bridesmaid

Danielle has known Ellys since their freshman year of college where they met in marching band (Ellys as a snare, Danielle saxophone). Although they knew each other through college, Danielle and Ellys grew even closer during the pandemic with constant video calling which eventually turned into visits back and forth between California and Texas. The most recent, Ellys came and visited Nick and Danielle’s new home in Glendora, CA! Danielle’s favorite memory with Ellys was during the celebration of Danielle’s 21st birthday in New Orleans. At a karaoke bar, Ellys and Danielle sang “I Kissed a Girl” by Katy Perry and other girls at the bar joined in, while Nick W. and Tim just sat and laughed! Fun Fact: Ellys will also be celebrating her 25th birthday on the day of Nick and Danielle’s wedding!

Lee Tarnow

Lee photo.jpg

Nick's Groomsman

Nick and Lee met at Principia College in the Computer Science department and immediately became close friends. They roomed together multiple semesters at Principia and enjoyed going out for All You Can Eat Sushi lunches on the weekends. They traveled to Chicago for an unforgettable St. Patrick’s Day celebration weekend and also enjoyed exploring local areas while learning and practicing photography. One of Nick’s many favorite memories with Lee was when they competed in and even won a programming competition where the prize was an all-expenses-paid trip to San Francisco to compete against international teams. During that trip they had the opportunity to explore the city, eat at some fantastic restaurants, and meet with the other teams from around the world.

Luke Sanasarian

Luke photo.jpg

Nick's Groomsman

Luke and Nick met in middle school, sharing many classes including band class where they both played trumpet. Their friendship continued through into high school where they still had many classes together, but also enjoyed frequently going to car shows on the weekend and watching DCI (Drum Corps International) events. Now that Nick has moved back from Dallas to LA, they have enjoyed going out to dinner and going on hikes. Nick is looking forward to the joyful opportunity to be a groomsman for Luke as well, as they asked each other on the same day to be groomsmen. Nick’s favorite memory with Luke was a double date between Nick & Danielle, and Luke & Hailey (his now fiancée) to the Los Angeles Car Show as one of Luke and Hailey’s earliest dates in their relationship.

Nick Wittsche

Nick w photo.jpg

Danielle's Bridesman

Danielle has known Nick W. since the first day of college band camp (both alto saxophone, although Nick W, was truly an alto and Danielle had only ever played a clarinet before this time). He was her first friend at college. They stuck together on every band trip, including but not limited to: New Orleans, Connecticut, New York and Memphis. Danielle’s favorite activity throughout college with Nick W. was to walk over to his neighboring dormroom in the middle of the night, after studying, heading to In-N-Out just before they closed and then watching Westworld, Game of Thrones, or It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Danielle’s favorite memory with Nick W. is going to her first ACL (Austin City Limits Music Festival) and staying at his family’s condo. Danielle now makes it an annual trip to go every October!

Tessa Kirk

tessa 2.jpg

Danielle's Bridesmaid

Danielle has known Tessa since middle school at Goddard where they were both in band together (Tessa as a flute, Danielle a clarinet). Thankfully Danielle and Tessa’s relationship continued past Tessa’s short time as a flutist and into high school through mutual classes. Danielle’s favorite memory with Tessa was going to a club together and dancing the night away! From then on, Danielle knew she always had a dancing partner - even if her romantic partner chose not to participate! Tessa also lives in Glendora, CA. Although Tessa is the most likely of Danielle’s friends to move out of the country some time soon, Danielle is extremely grateful that she is her closest friend around, literally just down the street now, although they still love to sleep over at each other’s houses! Tessa is one of the best on the dance floor and always there when Danielle needs her!

Preston Cobb

Preston photo.jpg

Danielle's Bridesman

Danielle has known Preston since the first year of band camp (both alto saxophone, although Preston was significantly better). Preston is a fantastic listener and gives great advice. Which was extremely helpful when Danielle was far away from home and often missed Nick. Danielle’s favorite memory with Preston was spending Thanksgiving their freshman year on an empty campus since everyone else went home for the holiday, but being far from home (Preston from Okinawa, Japan and Danielle a 22 hour drive away from LA), they both couldn’t manage going home. The only thing open for our Thanksgiving meal was McDonalds and we had a great time laughing into the evening!

Robert McAloney

Robert photo.jpg

Nick's Groomsman

This friendship began all the way back in second grade at Sellers Elementary School. Nick and Robert were always around each other, through school, Boy Scouts, church, or just hanging out. There were countless trips to the mountains, beaches, and even other countries. Nick has incredibly fond memories of dozens of camping trips including Philmont Scout Ranch and long backpacking expeditions in the Sierra Nevada’s, including reaching the summit of Half Dome in Yosemite. However, the memory that stands out the most is the adventure in Europe while in high school. During this trip, there were standout moments including sneaking onto the set of the movie About Time while it was being filmed in London, getting caught and lost in an evening summer storm in Germany, and traveling by themselves between countries to meet up with Robert’s family in Switzerland.

Tim Smith

Tim photo.jpg

Danielle's Bridesman

Danielle has known Tim since her first year of band, although he was a year older. He played the trumpet, while she attempted the alto saxophone. Danielle thoroughly enjoyed playing games with Tim (usually at Jake Moon’s apartment) since he is theatrical, takes the game seriously, and knows the rules well. A group of friends (including all the bridesmen) continue to this day gathering virtually each month to play board games, and typically rely on Tim to either find a game or to explain the rules of the game (even if he has never played himself!) Danielle’s favorite memory with Tim is staying at Tim’s parents’ house in Houston for a music festival (Tim’s first concert) that got rained out for the 2nd half of all the shows. Although that may seem sad, Danielle blasted Hamilton music in her car waiting for the rain to pass, forcing Tim to listen to the entire album until they went home. It should be noted Tim’s two favorite genres are musicals and rap and he is a political science major, the perfect recipe for a Hamilton listener!

Ananda & Alden Henry

collage.jpg

Junior Bridesmaid & Groomsman

Danielle began nannying Alden and Ananda Henry her second semester of college early 2017 when Alden was 5 and Ananda was 7. They are now 11 and 13. Danielle loved every moment of nannying for the Henry family and spending multiple days a week with Alden and Ananda. If there was ever an emergency at school (such as a campus wide water and power outage), Danielle knew she had a family away from home she could always hang out with. Danielle’s favorite memory with Alden was his dedication towards learning the drums when the three of them made a band called the Groovin’ Gadgets (Alden - Drums, Ananda - Vocals, Danielle - Clarinet). Danielle’s favorite memory with Ananda was taking her to dance practice and then seeing her ultimately perform what she had been practicing so hard for! (Also impromptu dancing was always fun all together)! Overall, the kids Danielle nannied are growing up, but she still loves seeing them whenever she gets a chance! When Nick and Danielle lived in Dallas, they enjoyed spending Thanksgiving with the Henry's and loved hanging out with them on other occasions as well. Alden and Nick bonded over solar car excitement when Alden showed a mini solar powered toy car he had. Nick and Danielle were fortunate to visit the Henry’s in October 2021 when they went back to visit Dallas, and they look forward to many more visits.
